Developing the Case for the Rochdale Advanced Machinery & Productivity Institute

Rochdale Development Agency has commissioned Steer-ED and Cushman & Wakefield to support project development and prepare a Local Investment Framework (LIF) for proposals to establish a national Advanced Machinery & Productivity Institute (AMPI) at the heart of Atom Valley, northern Greater Manchester.

AMPI has the potential to become a flagship innovation-led regeneration initiative for the levelling up agenda and is seeking to:

  1. Boost national-level capabilities in the advanced machinery sector, driving productivity benefits, increasing supply chain resilience and capturing an increased export market share.
  2. Strengthen Greater Manchester's and West Yorkshire's advanced manufacturing cluster and innovation ecosystem, complementing its strengths in advanced materials and industrial digital technologies.
  3. Deliver levelling up ambitions for Rochdale and catalysing high-value employment growth in North Manchester and the Atom Valley.

Our work focuses on supporting national and local partners in developing the project from concept to delivery, alongside preparing comprehensive strategic and economic cases for investment. This includes a detailed regional economic impact assessment of the proposals' employment, productivity, R&D and innovation benefits and their anticipated value for money.
