The story behind our name change

After 40 years, our parent company has changed its name from Steer Davies Gleave to ‘Steer’ to mark our continuing growth and diversity as a business.  To follow suit, we have changed our name from SDG Economic Development to Steer Economic Development.

The decision to rename reflects the Company’s growing international footprint and expanding portfolio into sectors beyond transport, including fuel, power and economic development. We are delighted to have been one of the catalysts for this change, and although our name has changed, some other things haven’t.  We continue to embrace Steer’s legacy of providing objective and results-driven advice. We are still truly independent, employee-owned and impartial, and remain wholly dedicated to providing clients with smart-thinking, grounded in expertise, to help navigate a complex future.

Our CEO Hugh Jones says: “We are delighted to announce our name change. Our new name and brand draws depth and strength from our achievements and pedigree and illuminates the Company we are today, what we stand for and our future as a growing and diverse company with services spanning infrastructure, cities and transport.

It marks an important point in our history. For over 40-years we have provided impartial, objective and results-driven advice. As Steer, we continue to strive for excellence in the transport sector, while celebrating our expansion into new and evolving markets.”
